Habits & Choices tells the stories of people struggling against a double challenge: drug addiction and HIV. Heavy drugs--in particular, cocaine and crack--speed up the onset of AIDS. But a positive HIV diagnosis is not necessarily a death knell if one lives in a healthy way. Eschewing narration, the film gives voice to these people in candid, heart-felt and emotional testimonials, where they talk about how they became infected, their fears, their daily struggle against the temptation to use, and the life style changes they have had to adopt in order to live with HIV. This
film, which Nora Jacobson made for the Jersey City Medical Center, is used
extensively as a starting point for discussions and groups with addicts
and people with HIV.
